Tour de Weeds
13 May 2022

Windy today, but otherwise lovely weather, so the Ogre and I drove down to Tolay Regional Park. The place was a giant weed patch, but I always enjoy pedaling on the old ranch roads, exploring little nooks and crannies, and fiddling with the camera.

As usual, practically nobody else in the park. I saw one couple and one solo hiker on West Ridge, all close to the trailhead. I had the rest of the park to myself. Well, Old Grumble-Face, roaming cattle, and an endless sea of weeds.

Pylons and power lines at the edge of the park.

Ogre and weeds. Not for the last time.

Camouflage. My lovely new shirt blends in. You can barely see me, right?

In the distance, Mount Tamalpais.

Maximum zoom to inspect barn and vineyards beyond the far edge of the park.

As if the gazillions of birds in the park needed a little house.

As promised, more weeds.

Old Grumble-Face, just another weed among the weeds.

From the southern edge of the park, looking across the Bay toward the skyline of San Francisco.

Maximum zoom across the Bay to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and San Francisco.

Based on all my rides and hikes to this spot, this is about as clear as it gets.

Did I mention weeds?

I climbed the rocky little hillock to look down on the ranch road along West Ridge.

Because of strong winds, the Ogre is sleeping in the weeds, barely visible as a black smudge beside the double track.

Old Grumble-Face shows off his shirt and surveys the weedy scene.

Starting down the steep, bumpy trail to the valley between East Ridge and West Ridge.

The strip of green and yellow makes it easy to see where Tolay Creek—retaining a little water at this time of year—runs through the park.

A streak of yellow along Tolay Creek.

Okay, guys, time to head for home.

Who wants to stop at Arby's?
