Alabama Hills, part 2
7 May 2021

I continued pedaling along Movie Flat Road, frequently turning up sandy tracks leading into clumps of rocky formations. Looking in any direction revealed spires and arches and jumbles requiring photographs. I wasn't reeling off many miles, but I was sure expending pixels.

In the distance, the Sierra always tower above the Alabama Hills.

Old Grumble-Face takes a break.

Hitchhiking rock.

Just above the Ogre can be seen the zig-zag switchbacks leading up to Whitney Portal, the gateway to the Mount Whitney trailhead.

End of the hills.

Here the road descends steeply into flat desert, leaving scenic rock formations behind. I decided to turn around.

Old man and the mountains.

As seen from the Alabama Hills, those zig-zagging switchbacks gain 6000 feet in elevation to reach Horseshoe Meadow and the Cottonwood trailhead.

I'll be on that road tomorrow. Stay tuned.
