Postcards from Sebastopol
12 March 2021
Despite serious drought conditions, we endured several consecutive days of damp, drizzly, chilly, gray weather that kept me off two wheels. Not enough precipitation to make a dent in our enormous rain deficit, but enough to make pedaling seem unappealing.Today, on the other hand, the sun reappeared in the sky and the temperature soared to levels well above average. I promptly promised my ace support crew that I would gladly take care of all my chores and projects, but I would need to delay most of them for a day. After a quick, early lunch I hopped on the Ogre and headed for Sebastopol. Several months ago I heard the Barlowthe town's food, wine, and entertainment districthad been spruced up with a series of huge "postcards" painted on the walls of buildings by local artists. Don't know what happened to that decor, but I never found anything that quite fit the description.
Anyway, I continued my ride through Sebastopol, picked up the Joe Rodota Trailrecently reopened after another big operation to clear a sprawling encampmentand cruised back to Santa Rosa and home base.
I never found the painted postcards I was looking for, so I made some of my own. Here they are.
Laguna de Santa Rosa.
Sometimes after a big storm the water at this spot is way over my head. Not that I've ever actually tried to stand here in so much water.
It's another yellow day in the county.
Bike shop in Sebastopol.
There are those who believe it is entirely possible Old Grumble-Face was the model for the guy in the sculpture.
Along the Joe Rodota Trail.
I've photographed this building before. It has absolutely no sign or any other indication of what it is. Tried googling to no avail.
Based on the hallucinogenic painting on every exterior wall, I'm thinking maybe a dispensary.
I told you it was another yellow day in the county.
