Tour de Lockdown: A Photographic Log
25 March 2020

Self-isolation. Lockdown. Shelter in place. Stay at home.

Call it what you want, we're following the order. Of course, I still get out on my bike as weather and other impediments permit. But yesterday Sonoma County ordered all parks to close due to an excess of congregating by self-isolated, locked down, sheltered in place, stay at home folks. When closing parks, that meant every state park, county park, regional park, city park, etc, plus every open space, schoolyard, playground, and multi-use path in the county.

Wait. What? Paths? Bike paths!?!

Yep, bike paths. That means the Greenway is closed. And the only two multi-use paths remaining open, the Joe Rodota Trail and the West County Trail, are now closed to bikes. Un-friggin'-believable! Now this little virus thing is getting serious.

Outraged, I contacted the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition and they got right back to me. "Yeah, bummer. We're working on it."

After hearing the news about closing parks and the Greenway yesterday, today I headed out to investigate the situation for myself. Sad news almost everywhere I looked, and—for good measure—on the way home a cloudburst drenched me.

Closed.

Neighborhood branch of the Sonoma County library.

Closed.

Neighborhood park.

Closed.

Neighborhood Mexican restaurant.

Closed.

Caffeine dispensary where Jeff, Cap'n Will, and I have been known to push right up to the verge of local vagrancy laws.

Not closed.

Expecting to discover the Greenway path closed, I stopped to read the sign. Surprise, all is well!

I continued on my usual route out to the end of the path at Willowside Road where I made a U-turn.

Closed.

What!?! By the time I turned around and headed back, the signs had changed.

Closed.

A little ambiguous, but it's supposed to be closed.

With the path closed, I detoured on downtown streets and found this young lady on a wall near Railroad Square.

Looks like she's sheltering in place.

For Johan.

Closed.

My detour took me through the first floor of the parking garage of the downtown mall, which is closed.

My detour took me past this building.

Another view of the mural.

The Pomo are an indigenous people of Sonoma County.

Closed.

Earlier I pedaled through the little park with the Big Fish in order to get on the Greenway path. In the meantime, new signs have been posted all around it.

Shortly after taking this photo, the cloudburst drenched me as I headed for home.
