Yellow, March 2020
Parks, pastures, and vineyards: A Photographic Log
9 March 2020

Lately I've been doing a preponderance of comparatively short off-pavement rides. Steep, rough trails make up for distance.

Today I decided I wanted to stretch out the mileage a little on pavement. I haven't been up toward Shiloh Ranch Regional Park or Foothill Regional Park since the wildfires in that area last year. Must be time to go in that direction. For good measure, I started the ride by going up and over Fountaingrove, which is still recovering from the 2017 fires that destroyed almost all the homes there. I avoided taking photos of fire damage and rebuilding, but all that was difficult to avoid on the east side of Old Redwood Highway and Highway 101 while pedaling north.

No damage on the west side of Old Red or 101 when I eventually crossed over and turned back toward the south. On both sides, lots of green splashed with yellow as the mustard performs its annual proliferation in dormant vineyards.

Overall, today's theme seemed to be yellow.

Shiloh suffered damage in both the 2017 and 2019 wildfires.

Sheep? Goats? We'll just say ruminants.

This is the way vineyards around here look this time of year.

Someday this will be vineyards.

Once upon a time, this was probably a pasture.

Foothill took a big-time hit from the 2019 Kincade fire.

The surrounding neighborhood was saved by a defensive line of massed firefighters and equipment.

Hey! Enjoy the grass while you can. Before you know it, there will be nothing to eat here except grapes.
