Too hot to be cool: A Photographic Log
14 August, 12 miles
I intended to ride rough trails through Hood Mountain Regional Park today. When I saw the forecast for the interior hillsfar from the ocean's cooling influencepredicted a high around 105° F, I altered my plans. Even with an early start, too hot to struggle up the long, steep climbs in that rugged, sun-drenched terrain.Plan B? I scooted over to Spring Lake and part of Annadel this morning for a brief excursion before the temp hit triple digits.
Let's cruise into the park for a short, undemanding ride before it gets too hot.
Took a different route and crossed the pedestrian overpass above the overflow channel for Santa Rosa Creek. Very shallow this time of year.
A breath of cool air on the boat dock at Spring Lake.
The Ogre is suddenly joined by a squadron of geese conducting a water landing.
On the trail into Annadel, the Ogre encountered these marauding descendants of fearsome dinosaurs.
Warming up. The "00" in the lower left means it is either really cold or really warm. It eventually went up to "06," but it tends to run hot.
The temperature peaked at over 100° F later today, but not quite that high this early.
The time, by the way, is off because it's too much trouble to adjust.
Maybe I should sit on a bench in the shade for awhile.
Based on the curved (rather than flat) leaves with spiky edges, I think this is a coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia) rather than a canyon live oak (Quercus chrysolepis).
Getting too hot. Time to go home.
