Community Bikes, December 2018
Farewell to 2018: A Photographic Log
31 December 2018, 32 miles

After being out of town sans bicycle for a few days, I figured the Ogre would want to get out and bid farewell to 2018.

We headed out the Greenway to snag a few more walls for the Cycle365 Challenge of the Month, then detoured a few blocks to visit Community Bikes. They do commendable work to make bikes available to folks—especially kids—who couldn't otherwise afford them. From there I picked up the Joe Rodota Trail into Sebastopol, took the usual route back toward Santa Rosa, and ended up at the western terminus of the Greenway. On the way back home I saw a multitude of young kids on bikes, skateboards, and hover boards. Must have been a good Christmas.

Despite the moderate temperature, a cold wind howled and gusted out of the north. It blew me all over the roads and trails and left me feeling a bit chilled by the time I reached home. Fortunately, a big mug of hot tea warmed me up in time to get ready for a wild and crazy New Year's Eve.

Lots of walls along the Greenway.

Welcome to Community Bikes on the far west side of Santa Rosa, just a few blocks from the Joe Rodota Trail.

A great service, refurbishing donated bikes and selling them at low prices to needy members of the community.

I've donated a couple of old bikes—from my ace support crew and our son, not mine!—to these guys.

Look! They painted Old Grumble-Face on the wall.

Closed today, but "Wheel be open."

A nice, bright building in a drab part of town.

For my next trick, I plan to see if the Ogre and I can ride up there and balance long enough to take some selfies.

Maybe I should make that my New Year's resolution for 2019.
